The former prime minister of Australia, Kevin Rudd, appeared at Wenzhou Business College's commencement on June 24 and handed out diplomas to the school's new graduates.
Rudd is an old friend of WBC, who once paid a visit to the school in Wenzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, in November 2016.
The former world leader delivered a speech in Chinese during the graduation ceremony to encourage students to follow their dreams, pursue their interests, observe social morality and never give up.
"WBC, which highlights the study of regional economy, private finance and the development of small- and medium-sized enterprises, plays an important role in researching Wenzhou's economy and the city's entrepreneurs," said Rudd.
Wenzhou is famous across China as a hotbed of entrepreneurship, and there is now a large diaspora of businesspeople who left Wenzhou to start businesses around the world.
WBC aims to develop talents to serve the international development of Wenzhou, and to promote the city's construction as a national financial reform pilot zone and a modern service and port logistics center in south Zhejiang.
The college established a new research center on June 25 to study the influence of Wenzhou's business diaspora in countries involved in China's Belt and Road Initiative. WBC hopes the center will become a high-end think tank in East China.
